Turkish FM states progress with African continent
Fidan made the remarks at a joint press conference with Botswana’s Minister of International Affairs, Phenyo Butale, following their meeting at the Turkish Foreign Ministry. He noted that this was Butale’s second visit to Türkiye this year, recalling that he had hosted him in April during the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
“Our relations with the continent have now evolved into a partnership policy. Today, our flag flies in nearly all African countries,” Fidan said. He added that Türkiye plans to further enhance relations at the 4th Türkiye-Africa Partnership Summit scheduled for next year, counting on the support of partners like Botswana.
Fidan emphasized Türkiye’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Botswana across multiple areas, noting that the opening of Türkiye’s embassy in Gaborone in 2014 significantly boosted bilateral ties. He also expressed readiness to assist Botswana in opening an embassy in Türkiye.
“Our economic cooperation with Botswana has great potential. We plan to hold the 3rd Meeting of the Joint Cooperation Commission in Gaborone in the near future,” he added.
